Prior to joining Mr. Shargel’s firm, Mr. Mazurek was an associate at the New York law firm of Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel, LLP, where he specialized in white collar criminal defense. At Kramer Levin, Mr. Mazurek helped obtain a favorable result for a Fortune 500 C.E.O. charged with accounting fraud. He also was selected to join the Criminal Justice Act Panel in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Mr. Mazurek began his career as a trial lawyer at the Federal Defenders Office in San Diego, California. During his tenure as a Federal Defender, Mr. Mazurek tried more than twenty federal criminal cases, earning several acquittals. While holding that position, he drafted sections of a national training manual, entitled Defending a Federal Criminal Case (1998). Mr. Mazurek has also taught seminars for the International Law Institute in China and Mongolia on United States and international money laundering regulations. Prior to joining the San Diego Federal Defenders Office, Mr. Mazurek served as a law clerk to the Honorable Franklin S. van Antwerpen in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and spent two years as an associate at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Swidler & Berlin.
Mr. Mazurek received his B.S. degree from Georgetown University graduating summa cum laude and was awarded class valedictorian. He graduated from Harvard Law School, receiving his J.D. degree in 1993.
Mr. Mazurek is a member of the state bars of New York, New Jersey, California and Washington, D.C. He is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Association of the Bar for the City of New York and the Criminal Justice Section of the American Bar Association.
